This thread is for boaters to note changes or report conditions of rivers at different flows.

Lower Boise, Dixie to Old Fort Boise/Deer Flats on the Snake

Here are conditions of this section of the Boise River as of 10/15 2011 at a flow of 1,060 cfs on the Parma gage.  It took us about 3.5 hours to paddle about 11 miles in inflatable kayaks and no significant wind.

The Dixie access has been gated, requiring a short carry to the launch.  The flow was high enough for us to take the river-left channel created by a mid-stream island.  Everyone did a short upstream ferry immediately after launching to avoid the mid-channel rock and we all went river right of the rock and made the sharp right turn below into the main channel without mishap.

Shortly downstream of the I-95 bridge, a newly downed tree extends into the river from river left.  You first see it as you come around a left bend in the river.  The river bends to the right near the tree, so the current tries to push you to the outside of the meander (river left) and into the tree.  A big slow eddy on the inside of the curve (river right) gives you lots of time to avoid the tree.

At this flow, the drops over the two largest weirs were straightforward.  At the first, we ran the far river right side.  At the second, we ran on the right about 15 feet from the right.  There was another slot more in the center (left of our run) between two rocks/pourovers.  Both runs were boat-scouted.
