Get the Most Out of the Idaho Snotel Sites

By jsteciak - Posted on 17 January 2012

Just about everyone who skis and snowshoes has the link to the Snotel sites saved as a ‘favorite’ in their web browser.  If you don't, this is your chance to learn how to find out the amount of new snow that has fallen (assuming that there will be snow this winter) near your favorite ski or snowshoe destination - and much other useful data as well.
A water supply specialist for the USDA National Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) Snow Survey will present useful products of the Snotel project and provide more information about the system.
This is your opportunity to ask about the location of the sites, how relevant the data is for snowpack and river flow analysis, and especially what -99.9 on the snow depth reading can mean.

IMR monthly meetings are a way to hear about topics of interest to Idaho outdoor enthusiasts. The meetings are usually held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month and are free and open to the public.  (Of course, we shamelessly hope you like what you see and will join the club--but we also don’t pressure you!)  We provide outing updates, announcements, and have a 45-minute presentation followed by discussion and/or social time so people have a chance to meet one another.

IMR holds meetings at the MK Nature Center Education Building,  (http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/education/mknc) (next to Idaho Fish and Game), 600 South Walnut, Boise, Idaho, from 7-9pm.  Meetings are from September through May.  In June, July, and August we have potluck picnics
